Icy snowflake. A little project to pass the time this morning whilst I recover from Christmas day festivities.

Glass Light Photographs
I've been playing around with photographing light for the past few days. Through things, over things, shiny things, sparkly things.

New Research Blog
I've started a research blog which I can easily update with any interesting articles, photos, companies, typography, design, studios or just about anything I find interesting!
I'm searching for jobs and placements at the moment so I'm finding the blog a good way to keep up to date with recent happenings and trends in the design world.
Feel free to follow, comment and enjoy!

Crescent Chocolate Packaging
Crescent is a luxury new dark chocolate collection from Nestle. I took the moon as a concept and showed it throughout the whole design. The box is covered in varnish constellations, a silver foil logo, and inside is a menu card where the lighter the chocolate, the fuller the moon.

Reveal 2011 Branding
I was chosen as one of 4 people to brand the Northumbria University design degree show, Reveal 2011 and the Stuff symposium. it was a big task as we had control over almost everything, including invites, maps, directions, wall vinyls, flags and more.
Each course in the design school starts a brief with an idea, and that is what our concept was. We wanted to show how that idea progresses and evolves.
We chose vibrant citrus colours to brighten up the white walls of the building. All the material for Reveal was green and all Stuff symposium material was orange. This made it easier to distinguish between the two events.
The front glass panels of the building were covered in black vinyl which showed the reveal 2011 logo through white dots. A-Boards were used to direct visitors to the entrance.
Altogether for the stuff symposium and degree show there were 7 different invites. The logo was a spot varnish which gave a nice effective shine and a slight texture.
An award winners wall was created so that the free dots could be filled in with students names as each year new awards would be won.
Flags were attached to the lamp posts which ran across the main bridge to the design school.
The logo was applied to the lights at the front of the building.
The directional vinyls were placed around the building showing clearly where each course was exhibiting, the toilets, stairs and lifts, and also the no entry areas. A flyer was also created for containing this information.
A video was also created and can be viewed here.
Stuff Symposium Branding
The Stuff symposium was related to the Reveal 2011 branding I worked on. The invites were following the same design as the Reveal ones, but were a bright orange colour instead or green.
A conference desk was designed for people to sign in and to get more information, and to collect the schedule of debates.

Set Slice Branding
Set Slice is a typographically themed restaurant based on the Typographer Justus Erich Walbaum. Walbaum was a pastry chef before becoming a professional typographer, and I wanted to celebrate this by creating a German style Konditorei (bakery).

Body Book Illustration
I created a number of illustrations for a project based on the body. I took the phrase "if the wind changes your face will stay that way" and used a fineliner to draw my face after it had been squashed onto a scanner. A concertina book was then created as I wanted the faces to blend into each other.

Ear Drawing
Just a quick sketch of an ear. I feel like I haven't done any illustration in ages so it's nice to get drawing again.

D&AD Body Shop Entry
Finally after a lot of hard work, my group and I submitted our D&AD entry for The Body Shop brief. These boards show our concept, development, and two boards showing the solution. It was important to us that we got a solid concept before we started designing the packaging, as we wanted our solution to mean more than just looking appealing.
We designed fruit stickers to show each products main natural ingredient and its origin, and then applied it to the paper wrapping as thought it was a fresh product. This allowed for a environmentally sound design while representing the natural goodness of The Body Shop. A company whose values and products are quite literally 'Good All Over'.

D&AD
For the past week I've mostly been working on the final project. Got good feedback on the initial ideas and the logo I have created is finalised.
Finally the D&AD work has been submitted. We're happy with the final designs and I'll be uploading some images soon.

Dot Faces
A little Photoshop experimentation relating to a new project. The amount of detail which is created by a few dots is incredible.
Best viewed on a large scale and from a distance.

D&AD and Top Secret
Been a super busy couple of months! This final semester is going by so quickly!
The D&AD live brief is going well. It was definitely a good idea to work in a group for the project, as we've managed to come up with some good ideas and incorporate a range of processes into the design, including printing and photography. We've just got to put the finishing touches to the 4 packaging designs and get the boards ready for submission at the beginning of March.
Also, I've been working on another big live brief which is running until June. It's exciting, a ton of work, and at this moment, top secret :)
I'll be updating with some D&AD images after submission.

D&AD Body Shop Brief
After a nice break for Christmas, and to write a dissertation, I'm back working on briefs.
For the D&AD brief i have decided to work on the Body Shop brief. I started off working alone, but after a quick brainstorm with some fellow students, we decided to work together in a group of 4.
We've been undertaking general research on the products, the body shop brand values and the shop image. We are not working on the packaging design until we get a solid concept.
I'm also writing a personal brief to work on for the next 12 weeks. More information will follow when it's all sorted.
